Professional Experience

2010 to present – JTG Advisors, President – Los Angeles, California

• Provides management consulting services to underperforming/distressed retailing, manufacturing, distribution and service companies. Services focus on both development and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives. Clients include a broad range of stakeholders –owners, management, secured lenders and other creditors.

• Provides advisory services to restructuring firms, lenders/creditors, insolvency attorneys and receivers on cases involving distressed retailing, manufacturing, distribution and service companies in bankruptcy reorganizations and out-of-court workouts. Negotiation, asset disposition, receivables collection, employee and wind-down issues.

1988 to 2010 – McMahan’s Furniture Stores – Los Angeles, California Vice President, Chief Operating Officer

• 90 year old retail furniture chain with $70 million in annual revenues and 400 employees in 25 locations at its peak in 2004
• 3 Business Units
• 20 + Retail Showrooms, Warehouses and Distribution Centers
• Consumer Finance Portfolio - $45 Million Accounts Receivable
• Consumer Credit Insurance Portfolio – 30,000 customers

1988-2008 – Operating Phase

• Repositioned company to focus on high share markets by closing large market operations and re-deploying capital to smaller market operations. Increased retail sales by over 65%
• Expanded retail operation from 1 brand (McMahan’s) to 3 brands (McMahan’s, La-Z-Boy, Mattresses Unlimited) significantly increasing market share and creating substantial operational efficiencies
• Grew consumer finance portfolio by over 60%
• Increased consumer credit insurance portfolio by over 90%
• Negotiated and completed 7 competitor buy-outs
• Optimized real estate holdings and reduced occupancy expenses by acquiring, developing and selling retail centers and distribution centers

2008-2010 – Liquidation Phase

• Planned and executed the wind-down and liquidation of all business units and assets in order to maximize returns to all stakeholders
• Executed 5 sales of real property despite turbulent market conditions
• Sold off $10 million inventory and all other personal property including all fixed assets and fleet of 70 vehicles
• Directed the final collection of $30 million consumer finance portfolio
• Negotiated 8 lease cancellations and buyouts
• Negotiated settlements with secured and 22 unsecured creditors
• Terminated the company 401(k) plan and 300 employees without incurring lawsuits
